Earlier tonight, SpaceX launched its first launch of the decade and it was another project by Elon Musk: Starlink satellites. Starlink. Starlink, for those who may not understand it, is a satellite constellation that will provide worldwide internet via satellite. It will be made up of thousands of small satellites that work with ground transceivers and are hoping for 24 more launches by the end of 2020–with 60 satellites per launch.  Around 12,000 satellites will be deployed by the middle of the decade and commercial operation should start this year.

Earlier tonight, SpaceX launched its first launch of the decade and it was another project that will benefit humanity. This project will enable people around the world to have access to high-speed internet.  SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk, is always wanting to help humanity by inspiring not only himself but others, too.

“Life cannot just be about solving one sad problem after another. There need to be things that inspire you, that make you glad to wake up in the morning and be a part of humanity”

–Elon Musk.

One thing I want to take note of is that in tonight’s broadcast, SpaceX mentioned that one of the satellites will be less-reflective. If this experiment works, it will make stargazing easier on the eyes of astronomers who have been voicing their concerns. This shows, that Elon Musk listens to critics who actually contribute valuable input to his ideas. When a problem arises, he doesn’t ignore it but he tries to solve it.

Why Starlink Is Important

Internet is something many take for granted every day. When that connection is lost, we immediately feel the pain, though. Imagine not having access at all or having very limited access.

The main benefit of Starlink is high-speed internet across the globe. SpaceX wants to create a global network that is not limited by ground infrastructure limitations and wants to focus on getting this high-speed internet to locations that barely have access. Areas that can’t afford the infrastructure for broadband will greatly benefit from satellite internet and perhaps Starlink could even be the go-to when internet communications are down in the event of a natural disaster or worse–a terrorist attack.

Imagine that scenario–your phone can’t access the internet and you can’t send a Facebook message or Tweet letting your loved ones know that you are okay or letting them know that you are trapped. Then imagine being able to connect to Starlink. This would be a great tool for emergency responders to use for communications during such a catastrophe.

Another benefit of Starlink is inspiring our future generations. It’s a bright reminder that we can achieve our dreams if we plan and work hard at it. If we believe in ourselves, anything is possible.
